The quality of the photo is very important. Choosing your favorite photo of your pet is how you begin to insure a portrait you will love for a lifetime. Keep in mind, I am a photo realist and work directly from that one photo. Whether it is in color or black and white, it must be a close-up clearly in focus with good lighting. Since your pet’s personality is best shown on his face, I typically paint just the head and chest area.

Photos taken at the pet’s level are more effective than when taken from above. Also, the lighting is very important so please make sure that the sun or your flash is directly in the face or just off to the side; this allows me to best see and capture all your pet’s details. This is especially important with black or dark dogs. Do not worry about red eye because I can remove it.
